9/13/2023 0 Comments Form tapping titaniumLike I said, form tapping would be a whole new way of tapping for us. Am I just totally looking in the wrong direction? How else do you guys tap smaller size taps in gummy aluminum, if so? What is your baseline RPM for running these taps? It's not something we're looking to rush thru, but form tapping is also something new to our shop.Ĥ. What brand form tap would you guys prefer? I've seen a mixture of reviews on the OSG vs. It has come to my understanding that aluminum likes to stick to TiN coating a little more than the Brite coating. What types of coating do you guys prefer on these taps? I've seen a pretty big mix between Brite and TiN coatings. I did a little bit of research and determined that form tapping would be the best option for us to try.ġ. I would like to see if we can change that process with this coming job. A very long process, but it got the job done without breaking the taps. After that, we would tap the rest of that depth by hand. In the past, we would always start these smaller taps in the machines using simple spiral point taps. We have done many of these type of parts before, but not at the quantity that is coming through our shop soon. There is a mixture of blind holes, and thru holes at varying depths (nothing to ridiculous). We have a bunch of large aluminum parts coming thru that require pretty small taps in them. Okay, now that we got that out of the way, I was looking ahead at some jobs we have coming up. First and foremost, this is my first post! WOOHOO!
